Taking Care of Pavers In Winter
During the extreme winter weather our walkways, sidewalks, and pavers go through a lot. These parts and elements of our homes are forced to interact with high winds, heavy snow and rain, and whatever else winter decides to throw our way. Because a lot goes on during winter, it is highly important to give your pavers maintenance. Staying on top of your pavers means their surface won’t be damaged regardless of the time of year. So, how do you give your pavers maintenance in winter? Here is how:
To begin paver maintenance in winter, you should always have the ideal drainage plan. By this we mean, if water begins to pool over them, their life span is reduced therefore you must find a way to reroute the water to an area where it can drain.
If there are any visible cracks or holes in your pavers you should use asphalt to set them so that water or snow wont seep into the holes or cracks. If water or snow goes into the cracks, the paver will ultimately break apart. You might also want to consider a sealer. An ideal sealer will protect your pavers and also will create a surface that is not slippery.
It is important for you to never shovel snow off of your pavers with a metal shovel. If you use metal shovels to remove snow, all you will be doing is scratching and damaging the surface. Instead of a metal shovel, remove snow with a plastic blade edge shovel. Plus, there are also deicers or snow salts that you can use.
